Topsun VS (1997–98) — the complete list of 172 cards, with PSA populationトップサンVS 全172種リスト（プリズム21種・PSA鑑定数つき）
Hi, I'm No Rarity, a collector in Japan.
This time: Topsun VS, the cards where two Pokémon are fighting. I looked for a complete checklist and couldn't find one anywhere — collectors on forums say the same. So I made one.
What is Topsun VS?
- Gum cards sold in Japan in 1997–98 by Topsun (later renamed Top). Each card shows two Pokémon, one attacking the other.
- 172 cards in total: 151 regular cards and 21 prisms.
- The card number is the Pokédex number of the Pokémon on the name plate. No.025 is Pikachu, and its opponent is Squirtle. Each card has one fixed opponent.
- Every card has the same back: green, with a “Top Pocket Monsters” logo — “Top”, not “Topsun”.
- PSA labels them “1998-99 POKEMON TOPSUN VS” (older labels say “1997-98” — same cards). Prisms add “PRISM”.
Often confused with
- The original Topsun set: one Pokémon per card, with blue backs, no-number errors, green backs and prisms. A completely different price range (a blue-back Charizard PSA 10 once sold for about $400,000).
- “Pokémon Card VS” (2001, the e-Card era): it has “VS” in the name but has nothing to do with Topsun.
- Later Topsun battle cards (Gold & Silver, Advanced Generation, Diamond & Pearl) are also listed as “VS”. If a Pokémon outside the original 151 appears, it's a different set.
The prisms in numbers
- PSA has graded 911 prisms. Only 43 are PSA 10 — 4.7%.
- 6 prisms have no PSA 10 at all yet: Venusaur, Pikachu, Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Omastar, Zapdos.
- The top sale is Blastoise vs Charizard PSA 9 at $8,000. Mewtwo vs Venusaur PSA 10 sold for $4,362.
